The Thor Classic statue, released in 2007, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful pieces ever sculpted by Randy Bowen and, in my opinion, one of the most fascinating Marvel statues, not only in the vast catalogue of Bowen Design, but of the entire sector. Not surprisingly, its price has always been high and its availability on the market quite poor if compared to the large edition size of 3000 samples. The pride coming from this statue and the elegance of the sculptural lines are simply impressive. The resemblance to the character of Comics is perfect, not only in the features of the physique and the suit, but also in the somatic traits of the face, which clearly remind the unforgettable tables of John Buscema. Thor is in a perfect museum pose, upright on a high elliptical base enriched by various etched marks and and an animal face (probably a ram) carved in relief. The physique is incredibly powerful, with the mammoth arms uncovered and a chest truly worthy of a God! The effect of wind, dynamically shaking the long cloak on the shoulders of the hero and his thick blond hair, is wonderful and well simulated by an extraordinary sculpt. The majesty of the pose is increased by the rather angled head and the austere gaze with which the God of Thunder seems to stare at the spectator. The suit is extremely faithful to the original Comics and is characterized by a first-rate chromatic contrast between the black on torso and pelvis (enriched by the typical silver circles), the pale blue of the suit covering the powerful quadriceps, the characteristic yellow and black streaked boots and, above all, the beautiful and intense red used for the cloak. Even in the details the colors are bright and well distributed. Just look at the golden waistband (with a winged buckle showing a centered "T"), the large black and red bands to cuffs, the brown leather belt carved on the handle of Mjolnir and the perfect gray tonality used for the hammer. The shades of color used to accentuate the contours of muscles and the veins on the arms are amazing; the numerous folds of the cloak (designed and sculpted in a masterly way) are impressively realistic and enhance the dynamism of the figure. Also the side wings, adorning the silver helmet, exhibit an incredible sculpt and a highly aesthetic impact, while the long blond hair stand out for their naturalness. The global coloring of the face is very good, in spite of some possible smudges on the darker boundaries: the pink tonality blends in a perfect way on cheeks and around the nose and eyes, thus emphasizing the austere and proud look of the prince of Asgard. Apart from any consideration about the undeniable appeal of this character of the Marvel Universe, the charm of this piece is undoubtedly of an above-average level and places it among the most beautiful Marvel statues ever made! A work capable of attracting even the attention of the layman and which represents nothing but an absolute must for any collector.
